Linda Yates Hillis heard talk about the county commission voting on a Solid Waste Fee and a Wheel Tax.  It didn't seem right since the citizens weren't aware this was going on.  

Ms. Hillis asked the county mayor what could be done. She was told she would need a petition with voter signatures turned in to the Voting Commission. If she could gather approximately 160 verifiable registered voter signatures in 7 days, this would earn Van Buren County citizens the right to vote on the tax.

Our Mission

VanBurenTN.Org in Spencer bridges the gap between citizens and Van Buren County government. Changes so far?
1) Citizens have learned about County Commission meetings and the policies for attending and participating in the meetings.                    2) Addresses corrected for commission meetings  on  the  County  Government  website  and  in  the  county's  chosen  publication  of  record
3) Commissioner contact information added to the county government web site.                  4) Kept  citizens informed on the Wheel Tax Resolution.  Resulted  in high voter participation  in  the Feb 7  special  election

VanBurenTN.Org continues to provide  updates  on  the   issues  affecting  Van  Buren  County.  If we stay informed, we're better participants.
